Summary

Wayman Academy Of The Arts is a public charter elementary school located in Jacksonville, Florida, serving grades K-5 with a total enrollment of 148 students. The school is part of the Duval School District, which is ranked 54 out of 67 districts in Florida and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Wayman Academy Of The Arts has faced significant challenges, including extremely high chronic absenteeism rates ranging from 30.9% to 76.9% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the district and state averages. The school's academic performance has also been consistently well below the district and state averages in all subject areas and grade levels, with only 7-27% of Wayman students proficient in ELA and Math in 2024-2025, compared to 49-63% for the district and 55-63% for the state. Additionally, 100% of Wayman Academy students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high-poverty student population.

Despite spending between $10,620 and $14,918 per student, which is higher than the district average, Wayman Academy's performance is among the lowest in the state, ranking in the bottom 10% of Florida elementary schools. This is in stark contrast to some of the nearby schools, such as West Riverside Elementary and Fishweir Elementary, which are in the top 20% of the state and have significantly lower rates of free/reduced lunch and student-teacher ratios. The data suggests that factors beyond just funding, such as student and family engagement, teacher quality, and school leadership, may be contributing to Wayman Academy's poor outcomes.

Open Quote I enrolled my children this year, at the time I was very pleased with the service after one week of care. Soon after one of my children tends to want to cry; for any unknown reason. I’ve been in the process of seeking help. Now going through a program called Daniel, to help understand what a child is going through. Maybe my child has some kind of Social Anxiety, he does fine when the other siblings are around. But he tends to cry when my other children have to branch off. The staff there said he can’t come back unless he stop the crying.
So he has not been at the daycare for over 3 months now, just returned back last week once school was out for the summer. So I enrolled him in summer camp with my other children and the very first day got a call to come pick him up. They did not want him to come back on Tuesday, but I asked/ begged, so Tuesday the same thing he cry whenever he has to split from the other sibling’s. Now he’s back at my Sister’s house.
Everyone just shove him off knowing I’m trying to get help. My baby will be born this year, I may not have a daycare for him, cause he’s a baby and they cry!!!!!. And at the same time let it be known that I’m on a voucher they still collect a State check, want to get paid for nothing. I also pay a parent fee, which is not cheap. I really only have one child whose attending the daycare. My school age only attend before and after, and not really after because of team-up. So pretty much they only get an hour at the daycare. And found out this morning 06/18/14, they there not providing breakfast either. I think its long due for a transfer. These people just want a check!!!!! Close Quote
