Summary

Hyde Park Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades 3-5 in Jacksonville, Florida, with 250 students. The school is part of the Duval School District, which is ranked 54 out of 67 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. Unfortunately, Hyde Park Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom 10% of Florida elementary schools over the past decade.

Some key challenges facing Hyde Park Elementary include extremely high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 30.9% to 53.3% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the district and state averages. Additionally, the school's students perform well below their peers across the district and state in English Language Arts, Math, and Science, with only 28-49% of students proficient in these subjects, compared to 49-63% for the district and 55-63% for the state. The school also has a very high percentage of students (76-84%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage among the student population.

Interestingly, the nearby schools, while also part of the low-performing Duval district, generally outperform Hyde Park Elementary on key metrics like test scores, chronic absenteeism, and free/reduced lunch rates. For example, Bayview Elementary and Fishweir Elementary have significantly higher proficiency rates and lower chronic absenteeism. Additionally, two of the nearby schools, Ortega Elementary and Fishweir Elementary, are public magnet schools, which tend to have higher test scores, lower chronic absenteeism, and lower free/reduced lunch rates than traditional public schools in the district.

Open Quote I have 2 children that go to Hyde Park, On several occasions they have been in a fight(none they have started) the principal basically turned her back on the problem. In my opinion the teachers and principal are scared of the kids that go to this school. The Office staff is the rudest bunch of people I have ever met, they can't even answer any question nor do they seem to try and find out. In my honest opinion they need to just shut this school down or at least get some people in there that will care and run it like a school should be ran. At this point in time if you are thinking about this school just turn around and run away now as fast as you can Close Quote
