Summary

Miami Beach Feinberg/Fisher K-8 is a public school in Miami Beach, FL, serving 851 students in grades PK through 8 within the Miami-Dade district.

This school presents a stark contrast in performance. While it excels in advanced high school-level courses for a select group of 8th graders—with 93% proficiency in Algebra 1 and 100% in Geometry and Biology 1—the majority of its students struggle significantly in core subjects. For example, only 29% of 3rd graders and 19% of 4th graders are proficient in English Language Arts, rates that are the lowest among all nearby schools. This is a dramatic difference when compared to top-performing neighbors like North Beach Elementary School (94th percentile) and Miami Children's Museum Charter School (98th percentile). Even Miami Beach South Pointe Elementary School, located less than a mile away and serving a similar student population, achieves 66% proficiency in 3rd-grade ELA, more than double Feinberg/Fisher's rate.

The school's state ranking has been in a steady decline over the past decade, dropping from the 22nd percentile to the 9th percentile. This is not a funding issue, as the school spends $13,313 per student—more than many higher-performing local schools. The high chronic absenteeism rate (19.6%) also points to deeper challenges with student engagement. In short, while Feinberg/Fisher successfully accelerates a small group of advanced students, it is failing to provide a strong foundation in reading and math for the vast majority of its elementary and middle school students, a problem that requires urgent attention.

Open Quote My comments are related mostly to Elementary School. Horrible administration for the last 4 years. Regularly overcrowded classes in Elementary Grades, High teacher turnover due to working conditions and a dictator like principal who seems to think only of herself disregarding teachers, students and parents needs. Some good teachers but overwhelmed with student class size and lack of administration support. Administration proactively impedes communication between parents and teachers to avoid parents finding the truth of what really goes on in this school. Prior elementary assistant principal sentenced to 5 years in jail for child porn, lawsuit pending for teacher and security beating up a special education student. Termites in most classrooms for years until this summer (2019) when the whole school was tented. A/C's not working in classes for weeks at a time without notification to parents. Decreasing grades, the list goes on and on... Is there anyone in the district paying attention ? Close Quote
