Summary

Silver Shores Elementary School in Miramar, FL, is a mid-sized public school serving 339 students in grades PK-5 within the Broward district, and it stands out for its exceptional early-grade math performance and the lowest student-teacher ratio among nearby schools.

This school is a powerhouse in 3rd grade math, with 89% of students proficient—far exceeding the district (73%) and state (66%) averages, and outperforming top neighbors like Lakeside Elementary (68%) and Silver Palms Elementary (78%). Its student-teacher ratio of 11.6:1 is the lowest in the area, offering more individualized attention than the average of 17:1 at nearby schools. However, the school faces a "5th grade slide," where math proficiency drops to 51%, well below the district (69%) and state (62%) averages—a stark contrast to Lakeside Elementary, where 5th grade math soars to 92%. Chronic absenteeism at 23.8% remains a challenge, though it has improved from pandemic highs.

Silver Shores spends $20,191 per student, the highest in the area, and serves a student body where 34% qualify for free/reduced lunch. This investment yields strong returns compared to nearby Silver Lakes Elementary, which spends more ($21,921) but has lower test scores and a 2-star rating. While not the top-ranked school—that honor goes to The Pembroke Pines Florida—Silver Shores is on an upward trajectory, climbing from the 60th to the 68th percentile. If it can address the 5th grade slide, it has the potential to become a consistent 4-star school.

Open Quote This school is great! Dr. Leff is a great Principal whom all the students love and respect. Him and the Assistant Principal, Ms. Burney know every student and parent. The teachers and staff there are great. My child transferred from another school and he couldn't be happier. I have also noticed he is accelerating very quickly in his school work compared to the other school. His teacher is very calm, and keeps the classroom distraction free. The PTA hosts many fun and exciting events for the children. Close Quote
