Summary

Lakeside Elementary School in Pembroke Pines, FL, is a mid-sized public school serving 500 students in grades PK-5 within the Broward County Public School District, and it has earned a strong reputation for its remarkable academic growth and high performance in recent years.

Lakeside stands out for its exceptional and consistent improvement, climbing from the 55th percentile in state rankings in 2021-2022 to the 85th percentile by 2025-2026—a 30-point jump that outpaces all nearby schools. Its math program is particularly impressive: 5th-grade math proficiency reached 92% in 2025-2026, significantly higher than the district average of 69% and even surpassing top-performing peers like Embassy Creek Elementary (84%). Science scores have also soared, rising from 53% to 76% over three years. What makes these achievements even more noteworthy is that Lakeside serves a moderately diverse student body, with a free/reduced lunch rate of 37%, compared to much lower rates at schools like Franklin Academy Cooper City (2.32%) and Greentree Preparatory Charter School (1.1%). The school also maintains a favorable student-teacher ratio of 15.8:1, lower than high-performing neighbors like Pembroke Lakes Elementary (17.4:1), which likely supports its strong academic growth.

While Lakeside excels in math, its English Language Arts (ELA) scores are very good but not as dominant, averaging 75% proficiency compared to Embassy Creek’s 83.7%. A persistent challenge is chronic absenteeism, which stood at 25.8% in 2023-2024—higher than Embassy Creek’s 17.3%—though the school’s high test scores despite this issue highlight the effectiveness of its in-school instruction. Additionally, Lakeside’s per-student spending of $15,261 is moderate compared to schools like Silver Shores Elementary ($20,191) but yields superior outcomes, suggesting efficient resource use. Overall, Lakeside is a standout choice for families seeking a school with a proven track record of improvement and strong math instruction.

Open Quote Overall, Lakeside Elementary is a great school in my opinion. They recently got a new Principal, Mrs. Kathy May and she is phenomenal! I believe the teachers that work at this school are awesome as well. The teachers do their best to help their students succeed. They try their very hard to meet students individual needs as best as they can. I've had nothing but positive experiences since my kids attended here, and I've had 3. I'm glad I gave Lakeside an opportunity to educate and teach my kids. The staff in the office are amazing and willing to assist in any way possible. I'm a very difficult and petty as you must call it, person to please and deal with, and this school have met my child's educational needs further than expected! Close Quote
