The school has been one of Connecticut's strongest middle schools for nearly a decade, currently ranking 44th out of 258 middle schools statewide (83rd percentile, 4 stars) and earning 4-star ratings every year since at least 2015. Among the three West Hartford middle schools, King Philip is the highest-ranked in 2025–2026, ahead of Sedgwick Middle School (55th) and Bristow Middle School (69th).

Academically, King Philip's students perform well above state averages in every subject. In 2025–2026, 7th-grade ELA proficiency reached 75.2% and 8th-grade math hit 62.9%, both roughly 20 points above Connecticut's statewide averages. The school is especially strong in 8th grade, where it outpaces its district peers by noticeable margins in both ELA and math.
