Summary

Naramake Elementary School is a PK–5 public school in Norwalk, CT, serving 358 students as part of the Norwalk School District. The school ranks 273rd out of 491 Connecticut elementary schools, placing it in the 44th percentile statewide — a solidly mid-range result that outpaces its home district, which ranks in the bottom quarter of Connecticut districts. About half of Naramake's students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and the school maintains a favorable 12.5:1 student-teacher ratio.

Where Naramake really stands out is attendance and math. Chronic absenteeism is just 11.4%, well below the district's 15.4% and the state's 16.4% — a strong achievement for a school with this poverty level. In the latest testing year, 3rd grade math hit 57.4% proficiency versus 47.7% for the district and 52.2% for the state, and 5th grade science also beat both benchmarks. Naramake's Hispanic students ranked in the 81st percentile statewide, and low-income students ranked in the 72nd percentile, suggesting effective support for historically underserved groups. The clear challenge is English language arts: 3rd grade ELA proficiency was 42.6% versus 47.3% statewide, and 4th grade ELA also trails. Parents should keep in mind that with only 358 students, grade-level scores can swing noticeably from year to year, so single-year results are best read as snapshots rather than trends.

Among nearby Norwalk elementary schools, Naramake sits in the upper-middle tier. It ranks behind Concord Magnet School (52nd percentile) and Wolfpit Integrated Arts Elementary School (48th percentile) but ahead of Marvin Elementary School (41st), Jefferson Marine Science Elementary School (39th), Tracey Magnet School (29th), and Kendall College & Career Academy (12th percentile). The comparison to nearby Westport School District schools like Saugatuck Elementary School or King's Highway Elementary School is less meaningful — those schools serve far more affluent populations with under 4% poverty, while half of Naramake's families qualify for meal assistance. For families weighing options within Norwalk, Naramake offers strong attendance, above-average math and science, and a record of strong outcomes for Hispanic and low-income students, though literacy support is worth asking about.

Open Quote I love this school and my daughter loves it as well! We moved to our neighborhood in Norwalk to get a full community experience. Our daughter was accepted to Columbus Magnet School and although tempted, we passed and stayed with Naramake. My kids can walk to all the schools and the teachers and staff at Naramake are so inviting. My daughter is performing above the state averages and has loved all her teachers. We made the right choice, Close Quote

Open Quote Many people think Naramake is a wonderful school.
It is...if you are part of the "Principal's Pack." The principal is very controlling behind that smile of hers. She has made it so staff and parents report back to her everything they see and hear, and then she deals with it--or not--however she sees fit.
Although they will tell you there is no favoritism, it could not be farther from the truth! Children of teachers/PTO parents definitely receive certain "perks" and privileges.
The bragging about the test scores all over the Internet is nauseating! The only thing those scores mean is more money for the school and brownie points for the administrators. It really does not adequately measure a child's true intelligence.
If the parents want to kid themselves that their children really are in "the best school in Norwalk," they are in for a rude awakening. Close Quote
