Summary

Leroy Elementary is a K-5 school in Northglenn, CO, serving 435 students as part of Adams 12 Five Star Schools — a district ranked near the middle of the state. Leroy itself, however, ranks 896th out of 943 Colorado elementary schools (5th percentile) with a 0-star rating. The school serves a high-poverty population: 78.85% of students qualify for free/reduced lunch, and chronic absenteeism is a serious concern at 44.0%.

Academically, Leroy is far behind district and state averages in every subject. In 2025-2026, only 17.8% of students were proficient in ELA (versus 42.3% district and 44.7% statewide), 13.3% in math (versus 35.5% and 37.3%), and just 9.9% in 5th grade science (versus 35.6% and 36.1%). Math proficiency falls sharply as students progress: 20.6% in 3rd grade, 15.0% in 4th, and a striking 5.6% in 5th grade. Nearby schools show dramatically different results — Hulstrom K-8 ranks in the 100th percentile and STEM Lab in the 79th, both within 1.3 miles. Even Stukey Elementary, which has a higher poverty rate (87.6% FRL), posts notably better scores: 28.9% ELA and 20.5% math proficiency.

Chronic absenteeism is among the highest in the area, well above the district rate of 32.2% and state rate of 28.4%; only Thornton Elementary (45.9%) is higher. Higher-performing nearby schools have far lower absenteeism — The Studio School at 22.8%, STEM Lab at 11.2%, and Hulstrom at 5.9%. Leroy shows no sustained improvement trend: ELA proficiency was 23.0% in 2022-2023 but has declined to 17.8%, while math remains flat at around 13-14%. The outcomes for low-income students, who make up the large majority of the school, have dropped from the 24th percentile in 2017-2018 to the 1st percentile in 2024-2025 — a sign that the school's overall struggles are widespread rather than isolated to any one group.
