Summary

Mesa Ridge High School is a traditional public high school in Colorado Springs, CO, serving 1,304 students in grades 9–12 as part of School District No. 3. Rated 2 stars and ranked 219th out of 338 Colorado high schools in 2025–26, the school has climbed from the 21st percentile just a few years ago. Its clearest strength is graduation: the rate jumped from 75.3% in 2021–22 to 91.2% in 2024–25, well above the district rate of 82.9% and the state rate of 85.6%. The dropout rate fell by more than half over that period, from 3.8% to 1.6%, matching the state average.

Academically, the picture is mixed. Science is a bright spot, with 11th-grade CMAS proficiency reaching 24.3% in 2025–26 — nearly matching the state average of 24.8% and up sharply from 17.4% two years earlier. Reading and writing are closer to average: 9th graders match the state at 66% proficiency, though the gap widens by 11th grade, when 51% are proficient versus 60% statewide. Math remains the clearest weakness, with only 14% of 11th graders proficient on SAT math compared with 32% statewide — a gap that has persisted for several years.

Comparisons to nearby schools highlight a distinct profile. Mesa Ridge graduates students at a higher rate than Widefield High School (91.2% vs. 83.8%) and has lower chronic absenteeism (30.7% vs. 35.0%), though Widefield leads on most test scores. Atlas Preparatory High School, which serves a far higher percentage of low-income students, posts SAT math proficiency of 37% versus Mesa Ridge's 14%. Chronic absenteeism still affects nearly a third of students and is likely a barrier to stronger academics. Subgroup results show historically underserved students performing relatively well compared with statewide peers, while gifted students' state rankings have declined sharply in recent years.
