Summary

Widefield High School is a comprehensive public high school in Colorado Springs, CO, serving roughly 1,193 students in grades 9–12 as part of School District No. 3. The school has been trending upward, improving from the 32nd percentile statewide in 2024–2025 to the 45th percentile in 2025–2026 (185th of 338 Colorado high schools)—its best raw statewide rank in available data. It now outranks same-district peer Mesa Ridge High School (219th), as well as nearby Harrison High School (303rd) and Sierra High School (309th).

Academically, science is Widefield's clear strength: in 2025–2026, 30.5% of 11th graders scored proficient on the CMAS Science test, beating both the district (26.8%) and state (24.8%). Math is the school's biggest challenge, with SAT Math proficiency at just 14% in 2024–2025 compared to the state average of 32%. Reading and writing results are mixed—10th graders essentially matched the state on PSAT10 Reading/Writing (64% vs. 65%), but 9th graders and SAT test-takers lagged. Among nearby traditional public high schools, Widefield is the highest-ranked non-charter option, though James Irwin Charter High School is an outlier with much stronger test scores and very low absenteeism.

Widefield's graduation rate has improved steadily, from 74.4% in 2021–2022 to 83.8% in 2024–2025—now above the district average (82.9%) but still below the state (85.6%). The dropout rate (3.1%) runs about double the state rate (1.6%), and chronic absenteeism (35.0%) exceeds state and district levels. On a more positive note, the school's Hispanic students have ranked in the 61st–72nd percentile statewide in recent years, African American students ranked in the 75th percentile in 2022–2023, and low-income students performed near the statewide median. The biggest opportunities for improvement include reducing absenteeism, lowering the dropout rate, and closing the math proficiency gap.
