Summary

Bear Creek Elementary School serves roughly 869 students in grades PK–6 in Monument, Colorado, and belongs to the highly regarded Lewis-Palmer Consolidated School District No. 38, which ranks 9th out of 115 districts statewide. In 2025–2026, Bear Creek ranked 150th of 943 Colorado elementary schools (84th percentile, 4 stars), with English language arts (66% proficient), math (58.7%), and 5th-grade science (59.3%) scores all well above district and state averages. Even so, it is not the top school in its immediate neighborhood: Prairie Winds Elementary School, The Classical Academy Charter, and Discovery Canyon Campus Elementary School all rank slightly higher overall.

One of Bear Creek's most distinctive strengths is its track record with historically underserved students. Its Hispanic students have ranked in the top 7 schools statewide for three consecutive years, and its low-income students placed in the 79th percentile statewide in 2025–2026. These are exceptional results in a state where many schools post wide gaps. Bear Creek also outperforms most nearby schools in science and is competitive in reading. Math is a relative weakness among peers, though: Ray E. Kilmer Elementary School (61.6%) and The Classical Academy Charter (66.9%) both exceed Bear Creek's 58.7% math proficiency.

The clearest area for improvement is 6th-grade math, where proficiency drops to 34.2%—roughly 28 points below the school's own 5th-grade score and below the district average of 40.6%. No other grade level shows such a steep decline. Chronic absenteeism is another concern: at 18.5%, Bear Creek's rate is above the district average (15.8%) and much higher than Ray E. Kilmer Elementary School (9.5%) and Prairie Winds Elementary School (13.7%). Finally, gifted and talented students ranked in the 42nd percentile statewide, lagging the school's otherwise strong results. If Bear Creek can solve the 6th-grade math puzzle and reduce absenteeism, it has clear potential to move from very good to elite.

Open Quote I love this school. My daughter is in 2nd and has been there since kindergarten. We have had amazing teachers each year. My daughter is so happy here. Her 2nd grade teacher is so good. We have moved out of the district now, and it is so hard for me to decide if we should switch for 3rd grade or keep driving up here. I like The principal, too. She is nice and I think she does a great job. Close Quote
