Skyline High School

Skyline High School is a public high school in Longmont, Colorado, serving 1,082 students in grades 9–12 as part of the St. Vrain Valley School District. The school ranks in the 20th percentile statewide — 272nd out of 338 Colorado high schools — placing it well below most of its district peers. Skyline also stands out for its student population: 64.1% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, a much higher rate than nearby Erie High School (13.1%) or Niwot High School (25.7%). Its student-teacher ratio of 18.4:1, however, is lower than many surrounding schools.

Academically, Skyline trails both the state and its neighbors by wide margins. On the 11th-grade SAT, 41% of Skyline students met the reading/writing benchmark and 19% met the math benchmark, compared with state rates of 60% and 32%. Longmont High School (62% reading, 40% math) and Frederick Senior High School (58% reading, 24% math) both outperform Skyline while also serving relatively high-need populations. The most urgent challenge, though, is chronic absenteeism: 48.4% of Skyline students were chronically absent in 2024–2025, up sharply from 38.3% the prior year and roughly double the district rate of 23.1%.

Despite the academic struggles, Skyline has real bright spots. Its graduation rate climbed to 89.6% in 2024–2025 — above the state average of 85.6% and up more than seven points over four years — while its dropout rate of 1.4% now sits below the state rate of 1.6%. The school's Gifted and Talented program ranked in the 84th percentile statewide, showing Skyline can deliver strong outcomes when students are engaged. The clearest path forward is reducing chronic absenteeism and strengthening support for multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and low-income students, where achievement gaps are largest.
