Summary

Platte Valley Elementary School is a K-5 public school in Kersey, Colorado, serving 528 students in the Weld County School District No. Re-7, and it ranks in the 60th percentile of Colorado elementary schools with a 3-star rating. Despite half of its students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, the school consistently outperforms state averages and far exceeds the academic results of most neighboring schools.

Academically, Platte Valley posts proficiency rates of 48.3% in English language arts, 45.2% in math, and 45.3% in science—beating state averages in every subject. Nearby schools like Chappelow K-8 Magnet School (33% ELA) and Pete Mirich Elementary School (31.1% math) sit in a much lower performance tier. The school also does exceptional work with students from low-income households, ranking in the top quarter of the state for that subgroup for three consecutive years. Test scores grow steadily from 3rd grade (37.4% ELA, 30.8% math) to 5th grade (60.5% ELA, 57.5% math), indicating strong cumulative academic development.

Attendance is another major strength. Platte Valley's chronic absenteeism rate of 10.4% is far below the statewide rate of 28.4%, while nearby schools like Centennial Elementary School (39.2%) and Jackson Elementary School (42.1%) struggle with much higher rates. The school also benefits from a stronger district—Weld County School District No. Re-7 ranks 45th of 115 districts, compared to Greeley School District No. 6 at 97th. Areas for attention include male students and students with disabilities, whose scores trail the school's overall performance. Even so, Platte Valley stands out as a high-achieving, consistently attended school in a region where many schools face significant challenges.

Open Quote If you child has ANY needs due to behavioral neurological disorders, find a different school. In MY experience, they would not share behaviors with me or his private counsler about my child that we needed to help. This effected the other kids learning and his progress in behavioral controls. They would not recognize the issue and blamed parenting. Told me to take outside parenting classes.
Also mysteriously my child had injuries that resulted in emergency room visits both years he attend. "Cameras on the playground were not working" concussion one yr, broken ankle the next, which he was refused nurses attention by 3 different adults. Close Quote

Open Quote They have helped my child get better in school. We moved to Kersey to get her in a better school from our school district in Florida. She was failing there. After getting here she has been helped tremendously. Close Quote
