Summary

Arvada High School is a public high school in Arvada, CO, serving 754 students in grades 9–12 as part of Jefferson County School District No. R-1. Although the district is ranked in the top quarter of Colorado districts, Arvada High School is one of the lowest-performing high schools in the state, ranking 323rd of 338 Colorado high schools (4th percentile) with a 0-star rating for the 2025–2026 school year.

Academic achievement at Arvada High School is dramatically below district and state averages. Only 32% of 11th graders are proficient in SAT reading/writing, compared to 70% districtwide and 60% statewide, while just 7% are proficient in SAT math. Math proficiency is in the single digits across all tested grade levels. The graduation rate of 71.6% is roughly 15 points below the district rate of 86.7% and the state rate of 85.6%, and chronic absenteeism affects 59.6% of students—more than double the state average of 28.4%. The dropout rate is also elevated at 3.5%, more than double the district average. Across nearly every student subgroup, the school ranks in the bottom 2nd to 6th percentiles statewide.

The contrast with nearby schools is striking. Ralston Valley Senior High School, less than 4 miles away, ranks in the top 6% of the state with 89% SAT reading proficiency and a graduation rate near 97%, while Arvada West High School, just over 2 miles away, ranks in the 72nd percentile. Even Westminster High School, which serves a higher-poverty population at 82% free/reduced-price lunch, achieves a 90% graduation rate. These differences within the same geographic area and district reveal deep inequities in educational outcomes across Jefferson County.

Open Quote This school is not what any parent wants for their soon to be adult children. Instead you have students who wear bras for shirts, groups who vape and smoke without having to worry, and very little support. Instead this is where students go to settle in life or give up. Close Quote
