Summary

Liberty Tree Academy is an alternative public charter school located in Falcon, Colorado, serving grades K-12 with a total enrollment of 592 students. The school is part of the El Paso County Colorado School District 49, which is ranked 46th out of 115 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Liberty Tree Academy offers an alternative educational approach, its performance metrics raise some concerns. The school has had a four-year graduation rate ranging from 55.7% to 92.0% over the past few years, which is significantly lower than the surrounding schools in the district, such as Thomas MacLaren State Charter School and Banning Lewis Ranch Academy, which have much higher graduation rates. Additionally, Liberty Tree Academy has experienced high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 11.3% to 27.7% in the past few years, which is much higher than the district and state averages.

The school's proficiency rates on the CMAS (Colorado Measures of Academic Success) assessments are also generally lower than the district and state averages across all grade levels and subject areas, including English Language Arts, Math, and Science. This suggests that Liberty Tree Academy may need to focus on improving its academic performance to better serve its students and close the gap with the surrounding schools. The school's increasing percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, from 7.42% in 2021-2022 to 23.31% in 2023-2024, indicates that it may be serving a more economically disadvantaged population, which could be a contributing factor to the lower academic performance.

Open Quote I subbed here once. It was a terrible school, which was surprising considering it's in an affluent area with brand new facilities. Students were over the top bad in 7th, would refuse to wear masks during covid and laugh at people dying. After I complained to admin, they had the audacity to complain about me to my supervisor. What a joke. Close Quote

Open Quote We have been in this school since it opened. At first. I loved it. As the school grows and my kids grow it is awful. My son needs extra help and it has been like fighting to get anything done. My daughter has begged me not to let her attend next year. There has been a lot of bullying. A lot of miscommunication. A lot of them not caring about anything but the numbers on the tests and what they look to the state. The teacher cannot handle ANYONE they might need to take a extra step for. I’m sorry but kids come in all different ways. If you don’t know what to do ask for help or get another job. And don’t even get me started on the principal in this situation. She only cares about looking good for the state. I would not recommend sending your children here. I have seen many parents put their kids in and the next year they have been pulled out. They have the ability to be better but I don’t see it happening Close Quote

Open Quote This school is one of the worst schools i have been too. My friend who had poor grades was alerted of there grades two weeks before the school year ended, certainly not enough time to fix anything. Most students struggled and barley made it by. The teachers simply dont care if you are failing and wont even tell you or try to help you. On an average weekly basis you have 13-18 assignments to work on for homework. The teachers hear about drama and take sides and for the other side that they do not support, they show bitterness to them. The lunches have mold in them along with other nasty things. Many teachers have said inappropriate words in their class, or discussed political beliefs. Many students have become depressed because of this school. Do your children a favor do not enroll in this school. Close Quote

Open Quote This last year at Liberty tree has been the worst ever. This is by far the worst school my kids have been to. We’re in the military and move often. The teachers are decent with a few that are amazing. The principal Ms. Wilson is god awful. I’m not sure how she’s even in change. I can’t wait to get my kids out of this school. Do not recommend for anyone!! Close Quote

Open Quote Administration are some of the most inept I have seen. They come down hard and discipline for things that are petty, yet they slap the wrist of those that have acted violently or have made significant threats against others. When I speak of administration I am speaking of the principal and vice principal as well as the dean who unfortunately has his hands tied by the district and principal he reports to. The school appears to be operated by women who were mean girls in school themselves and like to pick on the kids in the school they do not like. I can give many examples of this behavior as well as documented pettiness directed at students while in class and via text messages. We brought our kids here as an alternative to the other schools in the area, however, we have decided to make a change because of the cattiness and bullying that the ADULTS in the school participate in. Open Quote I had multiple children enrolled and within the first year the children lost 15 teachers total. The school blamed the teachers for the loss of staff as opposed to accepting any responsibility and even emailed parents unprofessionally throwing teachers under the bus for leaving. When a child is failing a subject, it depends on the teacher but some are just not willing to work with the parent to ensure success. The principal is not helpful whatsoever and refuses to address issues or concerns brought up by parents. The principal is also a dead end as she is married to the executive director of the school so all concerns are immediately stifled when brought up. We had many issues with teachers unprofessional attitudes toward students and saying inappropriate things to the students and when addressed with the principal the only response was “they were just kidding”. Would not recommend. They are no longer affiliated with Hillsdale last I heard and I’m unsure who they are operating under. Close Quote
