Summary

DSST: Montview Middle School is a public charter middle school in Denver, Colorado, serving 463 students in grades 6–8 and belonging to School District No. 1. The school has seen a steady decline in its statewide ranking over the past decade, moving from the 82nd percentile in 2015–16 to the 36th percentile in 2025–26, where it now ranks 301st out of 469 Colorado middle schools.

Academically, DSST: Montview Middle School's proficiency rates in ELA, math, and science are below district and state averages, with the notable exception of 8th-grade math, where 39.3% of students scored proficient—higher than both district and state averages. Within the DSST network, Montview posts the highest math proficiency among the three Northeast middle schools, including DSST: Conservatory Green Middle School and DSST: Elevate Northeast Middle School, though its ELA scores lag Conservatory Green by more than 11 points. Chronic absenteeism is 33.5%, which is lower than the district average and better than nearby schools like Manual Middle School (53.8%) and DSST: Elevate Northeast (45.0%). The school also has a very low dropout rate of 0.8% compared to 3.2% for the district.

For families weighing options, Montview serves a far more economically disadvantaged population than nearby high-performing schools like McAuliffe International School and Denver Green School Northfield, which have much higher proficiency rates and far lower poverty levels. Compared to Manual Middle School, which serves a similar percentage of low-income students, Montview is stronger in math (27.9% vs. 14.7%) and has far better attendance. Subgroup data show that low-income students perform near the statewide median, while female students and English language learners lag behind. Overall, Montview is a solid mid-tier option that outperforms several similarly challenged schools, even though it has not returned to its earlier top-quartile performance.

Open Quote This school seems like they are all about the core values, but need to practice what they preach. The problem student/students are not given any real Consequences, and the way they handled a situation makes the bullied student feel even more of a hopeless situation. I do not recommend this school to anyone. Close Quote
