CIVA Charter Academy is a small public charter high school in northeast Colorado Springs, CO, serving about 174 students in grades 9–12 within Colorado Springs School District No. 11. The school consistently ranks in the low-to-mid 60th percentile of Colorado high schools and earned a 3-star rating in the 2025–2026 SchoolDigger rankings. With a student–teacher ratio of about 10.9:1, CIVA offers a far more personalized learning environment than most nearby schools—Coronado High School has a 23.2 ratio and Palmer High School has 22.6.

CIVA’s greatest academic strength is literacy. On the 2025–2026 SAT Reading/Writing test, 78% of 11th graders were proficient, versus 50% for the district and 60% statewide—far ahead of Coronado (59%) and Palmer (45%). Science results are also strong, with 31.4% proficient on the CMAS science test compared with 24.8% statewide. The school’s results for economically disadvantaged students are especially impressive: in 2025–2026, these students ranked in the 90th percentile statewide, earning a 5-star rating. Male students also performed well, ranking in the 71st percentile.

The main academic weakness is math. Only 24% of CIVA students were proficient on the SAT Math test, below the state average of 32%, while Odyssey Early College and Career Options (36%) and Colorado Early Colleges Colorado Springs (30%) scored higher. Chronic absenteeism is also a concern: 51.1% of students were chronically absent in 2024–2025, nearly double the state rate. Graduation rates have been volatile, but jumped to 86.1% in 2024–2025, matching the state average and well above the district’s 76.7%. While small enrollment creates year-to-year swings, CIVA remains one of the stronger small-school options in D11.

The profound impact this school had on my son has been life changing. He now attends the University of Colorado - Boulder. He entered high school struggling from being bullied at his middle school. At CIVA he learned to excel in a safe and supportive setting. He developed a love for language at CIVA and self expression with all his courses in the arts.
