Summary

Sagebrush Elementary School is a public PK–5 elementary school in Aurora, Colorado, serving 354 students as part of the Cherry Creek School District No. 5, a top-ranked district (26th out of 115 in Colorado). While Sagebrush itself ranks below district and state averages—38th percentile statewide with a 2-star rating in 2025–2026—the school serves an economically diverse population, with about 52% of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. It maintains a notably low student–teacher ratio of 10.5, and chronic absenteeism at 24.2% is better than both the district (25.3%) and state (28.4%) averages.

Sagebrush stands out for its strong and consistent improvement trajectory. Math proficiency nearly doubled from 18.7% (2022–2023) to 34.5% (2025–2026), ELA improved from 26.5% to 35.6%, and science jumped from 7.7% to 20.4%. These gains are more dramatic than nearby schools like Meadow Point Elementary School, Cimarron Elementary School, or Mission Viejo Elementary School, whose scores have remained flat or declined. Sagebrush also outperforms schools with similar poverty levels: it leads Meadow Point in ELA (35.6% vs. 26.6%) and math (34.5% vs. 24.7%), and beats Cimarron by even wider margins. Its 10.5 student–teacher ratio is the lowest among all nearby schools.

A notable grade-level pattern: 3rd grade ELA proficiency (45.7%) matches the district average, but 4th grade ELA drops sharply to 22.2%, before rebounding to 38.2% in 5th grade. Science remains the biggest challenge at 20.4% proficiency, well below the district's 38.3%. Subgroup gains are broad-based—White students jumped from the 4th to 27th percentile, and low-SES students from 20th to 26th percentile over two years. Sagebrush sits in a cluster with two of the district's top schools, Trails West Elementary School and Indian Ridge Elementary School, but is outperforming peers with similar demographics, making its upward trend noteworthy.

Open Quote This is school flat out lies about the teacher to student ratio. They include ALL staff, even the ones that never watch children, to get that ratio. The truth is they have 30+ kids in these classes, not 16. Cherry Creek is fantastic at deception though. Close Quote
