Summary

Beaver Valley Elementary School serves 290 students in grades 3–5 in Brush, Colorado, a small eastern Plains community, and is the upper-elementary campus in School District No. Re-2 Brush, working alongside Thomson Primary School for younger grades. The school serves a largely low-income population, with about two-thirds of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. While the district overall ranks in the bottom 10% of Colorado districts, Beaver Valley's own ranking is stronger, placing in the 24th percentile of elementary schools statewide and showing modest improvement over the past few years.

Academically, math is a clear bright spot. In 2025–2026, 28.8% of Beaver Valley students were proficient in math, well above the district rate of 19.8% and competitive with nearby schools — only Weldon Valley Elementary School posted a higher rate. English language arts is mid-pack, with 26.8% proficient, trailing Weldon Valley (38.9%) but ahead of several Fort Morgan-area schools like Pioneer Elementary School and Baker Elementary School. Science, however, is a significant concern: just 10.1% of 5th graders were proficient, far below the state rate of 36.1% and roughly one-third of the rates posted by nearby Green Acres Elementary School and Columbine Elementary School.

Families should also note that class sizes are rising steeply — the student-teacher ratio climbed from 12.3 to 20.3 in just two years, now the highest in the area. On a positive note, chronic absenteeism (20.5%) is better than most nearby schools and well below the state average. The comparison to Weldon Valley Elementary School, about 18 miles away in School District No. Re-20 Weldon Valley, is instructive: Weldon Valley serves a more affluent population and posts stronger ELA results, but Beaver Valley's math achievement is competitive despite serving far more low-income students and managing larger classes. In short, Beaver Valley is a school showing resilience within a challenging context, with real strengths in math and attendance, but clear room for improvement in science and for specific student groups.
