Summary:

Delta County Joint District No. 50 serves about 4,200 students across 15 schools in western Colorado—seven elementary schools, three middle schools, four high schools, and one alternative school. The district ranks 36th out of 115 Colorado districts (69th percentile, 4 stars), placing it in the upper third statewide. Poverty levels run moderate to high: free/reduced lunch rates range from about 45% at North Fork High School to 76.5% at Grand Mesa Choice Academy, with most schools above 50%.

Small, choice-oriented schools lead the district academically. North Fork School of Integrated Studies posted the highest ELA proficiency in the district at 68.3%, and North Fork Montessori @ Crawford follows closely with 60.8% ELA and 51% math proficiency plus a low 8.2% chronic absenteeism rate. Paonia K-8 and Cedaredge Elementary School both top 50% in ELA and math, though both also carry high chronic absenteeism rates near 39-40%. At the other end, Lincoln Elementary School ranks at the 35th percentile with the district's lowest elementary math proficiency (22.7%). Among high schools, Cedaredge High School stands out with a 95.6% graduation rate and 48% SAT math proficiency, while North Fork High School holds the district's highest high school ranking (66th percentile) and a 0.7% dropout rate. Delta High School, the largest school at 626 students, graduates 93.1% of students but posts just 26% SAT math proficiency.

The alternative schools present the biggest challenges. Grand Mesa Choice Academy combines the district's highest poverty (76.5%), worst chronic absenteeism (66%), and highest dropout rate (10.9%) with a 61.5% graduation rate. Vision Charter Academy is a mixed picture: it has the district's lowest chronic absenteeism (3.4%) and the highest 11th-grade SAT reading score (81%), yet only 17.8% math proficiency and a 65% graduation rate. District-wide, math is the clearest weakness—several schools sit more than 10 points below the state average of 37.3%—while the three comprehensive high schools' graduation rates (93.1% to 95.6%) are a bright spot.
