Avon, Colorado is served by two public schools—Homestake Peak School (PK–8) and Avon Elementary School (K–5)—both part of the Eagle County School District No. Re 50, a district ranked exactly at the 50th percentile statewide. These two schools, however, sit in the bottom fifth of Colorado elementary schools, with Homestake Peak ranking 762nd and Avon Elementary 774th out of 943 schools in 2025–2026. Both have slipped significantly in recent years: Homestake Peak fell from the 38th percentile to the 19th, while Avon Elementary dropped from the 29th percentile to the 18th, including a particularly weak 15th-percentile showing in 2024–2025.

Compared side by side, Homestake Peak is clearly the stronger school. It outperforms Avon Elementary in nearly every academic metric: math proficiency (22.0% vs. 19.2%), 5th grade science (12.1% vs. 8.7%), and it has a lower poverty rate (57.7% free/reduced lunch vs. 79.8%) and lower chronic absenteeism (29.4% vs. 31.4%).
