Summary:

Eight elementary schools are listed in ZIP code 95833: seven serve K–8, Two Rivers Elementary serves K–5, and Hazel Strauch Elementary serves K–6; Hardy Brown College Prep has older test results and is not included in the latest comparisons. In 2025–2026, the seven-school average fell below the state in every subject: by 20 percentage points in English language arts (ELA), 12 in math, and 17 in science. The clearest overall finding is that results vary widely by school, while the group average trails state results across all three subjects.

Hazel Strauch Elementary led in ELA, with 44% proficiency—17 points above the other six schools’ average, though 5 points below the state. Larry G. Meeks Academy led in math at 39% and science at 31%; its math result was 1 point above the state, and its science result was 5 points below. At the lower end, American Lakes had the lowest ELA result, 10%, while Bannon Creek had the lowest math and science results, 7% and 6%. The gaps between the strongest and weakest schools were 34 points in ELA, 32 in math, and 26 in science.

Recent changes were mixed, and the average school-to-state gap widened in every subject: ELA declined by 1 percentage point on average, math rose by 1, and science was essentially unchanged, while the state results increased. Jefferson improved in all three subjects, but Two Rivers Elementary fell by 11 points in ELA, 8 in math, and 6 in science; it went from above the state in math and science in 2024–2025 to below the state in all three subjects. SchoolDigger’s statewide rankings also place American Lakes and Bannon Creek near the bottom, at the 1st and 0th percentiles. For context, all eight schools reported free/reduced lunch eligible figures for 2024–2025, ranging from 57% at Two Rivers Elementary to 92% at Smythe Academy of Arts and Sciences; Meeks had a 15.2 student-teacher ratio, while Hazel Strauch had a 26.9 ratio and the top ELA result.
