Summary:
ZIP code 95376 has 21 schools—12 elementary, three middle, five high and one alternative—serving students from elementary grades through high school. In 2025–2026, the average All Grades results across 17 schools were 37% in ELA, 25% in math and 23% in science, compared with state figures of 49%, 38% and 36%. Because schools serve different grade spans, these broad results are not perfectly like-for-like comparisons. The most important area-wide finding is that average proficiency trails the state in all three subjects, with the largest shortfall in math: about 14 points, versus 12 in ELA and 13 in science.
The top results differ by subject: Merrill F. West High led ELA at 60%, about 11 points above the state; George Kelly Elementary led math at 42%, about 4 points above; and South/West Park Elementary led science at 43%, about 7 points above. At the other end, George and Evelyn Stein Continuation recorded the lowest reported results in all three subjects: 11% ELA, 3% math and 4% science. Grade-level results also reveal strengths that overall figures can hide: George Kelly’s 6th-grade ELA and math were 64% and 55%, respectively, compared with 48% and 37% statewide.
Year-to-year results were mixed: among the same 17 schools, average ELA rose about 1 point and science about 2, while math fell about 1; science improved at 14 schools, but its average gain was smaller than the state’s. Wanda Hirsch Elementary gained about 13 points in ELA and 6 in math, while Louis A. Bohn Elementary declined in all three subjects. SchoolDigger rankings also moved in different directions: Bohn went from the 38th to the 14th percentile between 2023–2024 and 2025–2026, while Earle E. Williams Middle rose from the 40th to the 48th percentile. As context, 2024–2025 free/reduced lunch eligible shares were 80% at South/West Park, 92% at North Elementary and 90% at Central Elementary; their science results were 43%, 19% and 22%, respectively—differences that describe the schools, not what caused the results.
