Summary:

Zip code 92262 has five schools: two elementary schools, one middle school, one high school and one K–12 alternative school. California reports that all students statewide receive free school meals, while each school also has its own reported free/reduced-lunch-eligible measure. Across the five schools, the unweighted average was 39% proficient in English language arts (ELA), 24% in math and 27% in science, compared with state averages of 49%, 38% and 36%. The most important same-grade finding is that Katherine Finchy Elementary scored higher than Vista del Monte Elementary in every listed shared grade and subject, by 6 to 34 percentage points.

Leaders vary by subject: Palm Springs High led all-grades ELA at 57%, 14 points above the next-highest school and 8 points above the state. Finchy led math at 37%—11 points above the next school, but 1 point below the state—and science at 37%, 8 points above the next school and 1 point above the state. Vista del Monte was lowest in ELA (19%) and math (12%): 17 and 9 points below the next-lowest schools, respectively. Palm Springs High had the lowest science result at 21%. Because the schools serve different grade spans, all-grades comparisons are broad snapshots rather than like-for-like rankings.

Recent results show mixed progress: from 2024–25 to 2025–26, the five-school average rose 3 points in ELA and 5 in science, but slipped by less than 1 point in math; the average gap to the state narrowed in ELA and science but widened in math. Brookfield Engineering Science Technology Academy improved in all three subjects, while Vista del Monte declined in all three; Palm Springs High also rose in all three, and Finchy’s math edged down. SchoolDigger statewide percentiles fell from 29 to 7 for Vista del Monte between 2023–24 and 2025–26, compared with 56 to 47 for Palm Springs High, 45 to 37 for Raymond Cree Middle and 54 to 52 for Finchy. The 2024–25 free/reduced-lunch-eligible figures were 88% at Finchy, 95% at Vista del Monte, 96% at Palm Springs High, 97% at Raymond Cree and 63% at Brookfield; these are context, not an explanation for results.
