Summary:
Schools in ZIP code 91733 include nine schools: seven elementary schools, including schools serving through grade eight, one middle school and one high school. In 2025–26, the schools’ average results were below California’s by about 3 percentage points in English language arts (ELA), 4 points in math and 3 points in science. But results varied widely: math scores ranged from 7% to 60%, and science scores from 8% to 56%. The ZIP code alone is therefore a poor guide to what a particular school’s results look like.
New Lexington Elementary and New Temple stand out among elementary schools. New Lexington had 60% proficiency in math, 53% in ELA and 49% in science; New Temple led elementary results in ELA at 58% and science at 56%, and had 52% in math. By contrast, Miramonte Elementary had the lowest result in every subject: 21% in ELA, 7% in math and 8% in science, versus state results of 49%, 38% and 36%. South El Monte High had the area’s highest all-grades ELA result, 60%, but scored 17% in math and 24% in science; its graduation rate was 98%, about 11 percentage points above the state.
Recent changes show improvement in math and especially science across the schools, but not in every subject or school. From 2024–25 to 2025–26, the unweighted school average rose 2 percentage points in math and 13 in science, while ELA was essentially unchanged; science’s gap with the state narrowed from 12 points to 3. New Lexington’s science result rose 35 points, while Miramonte’s fell by 1. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile for New Lexington rose from 53 to 66 to 76 over three years, and New Temple’s rose from 66 to 72 to 76. All nine schools reported that 69%–95% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible in 2024–25; this is context, not an explanation for their results. Because schools serve different grade spans, all-grades comparisons are not fully like-for-like.
