Summary:

Schools in ZIP code 91706 include 23 schools: eight elementary, four middle, 10 high schools and one alternative school, spanning elementary through high school. For 2025–26, results are available for 16 schools; their average proficiency was about 38% in English language arts (ELA), 26% in math and 24% in science, compared with state results of about 49%, 38% and 36%. The averages are roughly 12 percentage points below the state in every subject, while school results vary widely. The most important takeaway is that area-wide averages hide large differences between schools, and no subject’s average reaches the state result.

Sierra Vista High led All Grades ELA and science, with about 64% proficient in each; its ELA result was just ahead of Baldwin Park High, also about 64%, and its science result was 2 points above BP STEM Academy. Kenmore Elementary led math at 40%, 7 points above Walnut Elementary. At the other end, North Park Continuation High had the lowest All Grades results: 4% in ELA, 2% in math and 1% in science. The top-to-bottom gaps were 60 points in ELA, 38 in math and 36 in science. Grade-level results can reveal additional strengths: BP STEM’s grade 5 science result was 56%, compared with 35% statewide, while its grade 8 math result was 21%, versus 36% statewide.

Year-to-year changes were mixed: across the 16 schools with consecutive results, average ELA proficiency fell about 2 points, while math and science were essentially flat. Because state results rose, the area’s gaps widened by about 3 points in ELA, 1 in math and 3 in science. De Anza Elementary was a math exception, improving 9 points, and Kenmore’s science score rose 11 points. SchoolDigger rankings also moved in different directions: Kenmore rose from the 49th to the 58th percentile, while Walnut fell from the 51st to the 31st. As context, the 2024–25 free/reduced lunch eligible share was 88% at Sierra Vista High and 87% at Baldwin Park High; their student-teacher ratios were 20.2 and 19.3, and their grade 11 ELA results were close, but math was 30% at Sierra Vista and 21% at Baldwin Park. These measures describe differences between schools, not reasons for their results.
