Summary:

Schools in zip code 91335 include 21 schools: 9 elementary, 1 middle, 8 high and 3 alternative schools, serving students from elementary through high school. Sixteen schools have 2025–26 all-grades proficiency results; the other five have older results or no scores supplied. On average, those 16 schools were below California in all three subjects, with the largest gap in science: 44% were proficient in ELA versus 49% statewide, 36% in math versus 38%, and 30% in science versus 36%.

Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies stands out at the top, leading the 16-school group in ELA at 71%, math at 53% and science at 46%. At the other end, Zane Grey Continuation reported 8% in ELA and 0% in both math and science. The gap between the highest and lowest schools was 63 percentage points in ELA, 53 in math and 46 in science. Results can differ by grade, too: in grade 11 ELA, Magnolia Science Academy 5 reported 95%, compared with 57% statewide, while its grade 6 ELA result was 24%, versus 48% statewide.

Recent changes are mixed, though science improved most across the group: average science proficiency rose 5 points from 2024–25 to 2025–26, compared with 1 point in ELA and less than 1 point in math. Vanalden Avenue Elementary improved in all three subjects, by 8 to 13 points; Magnolia Science Academy 5 gained 19 points in science but fell 16 in math. SchoolDigger rankings also moved in different directions: Shirley Avenue Elementary rose from the 39th to the 65th percentile, while Garden Grove Elementary fell from the 65th to the 52nd. As context, both Shirley Avenue and Bertrand Avenue Elementary reported high free/reduced lunch eligible rates in 2024–25—92% and 91%—yet their ELA results were 54% and 31%, respectively; these figures describe school contexts, not causes of results.
