Summary:
Three elementary schools serve ZIP code 90603: Leffingwell Elementary and Murphy Ranch Elementary serve kindergarten through grade 5, while Jordan Elementary serves kindergarten through grade 6; enrollment ranges from 466 to 551 students, with 1,533 students altogether. Jordan’s extra grade means the all-grades comparisons are not exactly like-for-like. In 2025–2026, all three schools scored above state results in ELA, math, and science, and Murphy Ranch led all three subjects.
Murphy Ranch is the clearest overall standout, with 76% proficient in ELA, 69% in math, and 52% in science—14, 9, and 7 percentage points above the average of the other two schools, respectively. Its scores were also 27 points above the state in ELA, 30 in math, and 16 in science. Jordan had the lowest all-grades scores—57% in ELA, 53% in math, and 44% in science—but still exceeded the state by 7, 15, and 8 points. Leffingwell stands out in grade 3 math: 86% proficient, compared with 78% at Murphy Ranch and 61% at Jordan, and 39 points above the state grade 3 result.
Recent results show different patterns by school: Jordan improved in all three subjects from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, Leffingwell declined in all three, and Murphy Ranch’s science score fell by 7 points even as its ELA result rose by 2 and math stayed nearly level. Across the schools, the average advantage over the state narrowed, most notably in science, from 15 points to 11. SchoolDigger’s rankings moved from the 69th to the 74th percentile for Jordan, from the 87th to the 83rd for Leffingwell, and from the 88th to the 89th for Murphy Ranch. As context, Murphy Ranch has the highest student-teacher ratio, 28.2, yet the strongest results; its free/reduced lunch eligible share was 41% in 2024–2025, compared with 53% at Leffingwell and 63% at Jordan. These measures describe school-level patterns, not what causes student results.
