Summary:
90241 has eight schools in Downey Unified: three elementary schools, one middle school and four high schools, enrolling 11,667 students. Across reported 2025–2026 results, the schools’ average was 56% in ELA and 40% in math, compared with state averages of 49% and 38%; in science, the schools averaged 28% versus 36% statewide. Because the schools serve different grades, these all-grades comparisons are useful snapshots rather than perfectly like-for-like comparisons. The clearest area-wide concern is science, where results are below the state average and the gap has grown.
Results vary widely by school. Warren High had the highest reported all-grades ELA score at 72%, ahead of Williams Elementary at 69%; Warren was 23 percentage points above the state. Math rose 0.6 points, less than the state’s 1.1-point gain, while science fell 1 point as the state rose 3, widening the gap by 4 points. Context measures do not neatly predict results: in 2024–2025, free/reduced lunch eligible figures were 79% at Downey and 80% at Warren, with student-teacher ratios of 23.8 and 24.3.
