Summary:
ZIP code 90005 has four Los Angeles Unified elementary schools, all serving kindergarten through grade five, with 1,509 students total and enrollment of 297 to 551 per school. In 2025–26, their average proficiency was about 50% in ELA, 43% in math and 35% in science, compared with statewide results of 49%, 38% and 36%. Math was strongest relative to the state, while science was slightly below it. The most important finding is how uneven results are across schools, with Hoover Street Elementary leading across all three subjects.
Hoover Street was the clear academic standout: 74% of students met the ELA standard, 69% met the math standard and 51% met the science standard. Those results were 25, 30 and 15 percentage points above the state, respectively. At the other end, Ambassador School-Global Education had the lowest ELA and math results, at 29% and 21%; its 23% in science was 13 points below the state. Wilshire Park Elementary exceeded the state in all three subjects, by 2 points in ELA, 8 in math and 12 in science. Wilton Place Elementary was close to the state in math but 19 points below it in science, the lowest science result in the group.
Science improved at every school from 2024–25 to 2025–26, rising by 10 percentage points on average; the state gained 3 points. Ambassador made the largest jump, 20 points, but remained below the state. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile rankings rose from 80 to 88 for Hoover and 28 to 46 for Wilton; Wilshire stayed fairly steady, moving from 63 to 67. Other differences may help families compare schools: Wilton had the lowest student-teacher ratio, 14.1, but the highest chronic absenteeism, 28% in 2025–26; Hoover’s absenteeism was 15%, below the state’s 18%. In 2024–25, Ambassador, Wilshire and Wilton reported 95%, 87% and 94% free/reduced lunch eligible, while Hoover reported 66% directly certified for free meals; these are different measures and should not be treated as directly comparable.
