Open Quote I am 74 years old and went to OLSH from Kindergarten thru 5th grade. We moved to Lemon Grove and I went to St John Of The Cross. I then went to Rosary High School, graduated in 1963. All three schools were taught by Sisters of St Joseph of Orange.

my oldest brother besides going to OLSH, graduated from Saints in about 1955. My mother went St Joseph's grammar school then to Our Lady of Peace, class of 1933. She then went to Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in San Diego, class of 1936. I'm the 4th of 8 children and one of my sisters and me went over to Rosary after OLSH moved over there. It just breaks my heart to see all of the Catholic Schools that have merged or closed. My children are 50 and 49 years old, went to Holy Trinity in El Cajon. My grandmother (my mother's mother), moved to San Diego in the late 1800's from Wisconsin, so we have been here forever. With all the changes in San Diego, I think I miss Mission Valley's Highway 80 the most. The dairies, horse riding stables and Westgate Park. There is still a beautiful 2 story yellow farm house in Mission Valley on the south side oh I-8, just before 805 over pass heading West. I still remember that house on the way to the beach as a kid. I just wish I knew when it was built and if it has always been handed down in their family. I now live in Santee and my daughter and grandson moved back home to help me with my son. He had a stroke on April 22, 2010. Now my daughter has health problems from blood clots throughout her body 2 years ago. After being in the hospital (almost died) 5 weeks, she now has so many thing that she has developed. The medical problem she is fighting now, lands her in the hospital every 4 to six weeks and the doctors don't know what it is. She has 8 specialist she goes to and probably has (maybe) one good week out of the month. I'm so sorry for going on an on. As far as loving OLSH, I always loved our cloakrooms and all of the beautiful wood. That might have been the last of the indoor schools. OLSH was a beautiful school. When I went over to Rosary, it was so cute seeing the lower grades in our 2 story school. Life marches on and there is no stopping it. Who ever reads this will be so young that you won't have a clue what I'm talking about from OLSH to Mission Valley in the 1950's. That was the good life....If we had only known it then. Thank you for letting me walk down memory lane. God Bless You All, Sally Gosselin (OLSH & Rosary High School-Class of 1963). Close Quote
