Summary

Riverbank Elementary is a K-8 public school serving 599 students in West Sacramento's Washington Unified district, but it faces significant academic and attendance challenges compared to other local schools.

The school's academic performance is among the lowest in the state, with only 16.71% of students proficient in English and 8.64% in math, which is substantially lower than nearby schools like Sacramento Valley Charter (62.08% in English) and Elkhorn Village Elementary (35.73% in English). Furthermore, chronic absenteeism, where students miss 10% or more of school days, is a major concern at 32.4%, well above the district and state averages and higher than most neighboring schools.

While the school serves a community with high economic need, it operates with lower per-student funding ($8,446) than many comparable schools. Its academic ranking has declined over the past decade, and it shows particularly low math proficiency in middle school grades. In contrast, some nearby charter schools demonstrate stronger outcomes, though they often have different student populations and funding levels, as seen with River Charter Schools Lighthouse Charter.

Open Quote For the most part, the teachers and the principal are good people, but the front office staff are a bunch of horrid, unprofessional terrible people that threaten law enforcement and child protection services on parents who are 15 minutes late picking up their kids in a residential neighborhood where there is road construction and nowhere to park, yes, this is where the school is located. They have some nerve. Close Quote
