Summary

New Valley Continuation High is a 151-student school serving grades 9–12 in Santa Clara, California, within Santa Clara Unified. In 2025–26, just 12% of students met the ELA standard, none met the math standard, and 10% met the science standard. The most important concern is that achievement is low across all three tested subjects, not just one.

Compared with the state and district, New Valley’s proficiency was much lower in every subject: ELA was 12%, versus 49% statewide and 61% in the district; math was 0%, versus 38% and 50%; and science was 10%, versus 36% and 51%. Among eight nearby schools with reported results, New Valley was lowest in ELA and math and third-lowest in science; its science result was its strongest relative showing. Attendance and completion are also concerns: chronic absenteeism was 78% in 2025–26, compared with 14% in the district and 18% statewide. Results have improved in ELA and science since 2022–23, but math proficiency remained at 0% in each of the four reported years. ELA rose by 5 percentage points to 12%, while science increased by 3 points to 10%; the state’s science results rose faster. SchoolDigger’s statewide rating improved from the 7th percentile and zero stars in 2024–25 to the 16th percentile and one star in 2025–26, but only Boynton High ranked lower among nearby schools with a current rating. New Valley’s student-teacher ratio was 10.5 in 2024–25, lower than at most nearby traditional high schools, and 44% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible that year; these are context, not explanations for results. SchoolDigger’s measure of how well the school serves English Language Learners also shifted sharply: the group ranked at the 32nd percentile in 2022–23, compared with the school’s overall 14th percentile, then at the 3rd percentile the next year, versus 10th overall.
