Summary:

The six schools in Fremont Union High serve grades 9–12 in the South Bay: five comprehensive high schools enroll 1,630 to 2,224 students, while Community Day enrolls six. In 2025–2026, the five comprehensive schools averaged 81% proficient in English, 74% in math and 71% in science, compared with state averages of 49%, 38% and 36%. Community Day’s test results are suppressed, so those averages cover only the five comprehensive schools. The most important finding for families is that the area’s strong averages mask a wide gap between schools.

Lynbrook High leads the group in all three subjects, with 93% proficient in English, 89% in math and 87% in science; Fremont High is lowest, at 58%, 42% and 42%. The gap between them is 36 percentage points in English, 47 in math and 45 in science. Cupertino High is a strong all-around option, placing second in math and science and third in English; Monta Vista High is second in math. SchoolDigger ranks Lynbrook 12th of 2,137 statewide, Cupertino 36th and Homestead High 81st.

Recent changes were mixed: the five-school average was essentially flat in English, fell by 1 point in math and rose by 2 points in science. Homestead improved in all three subjects, including 6 points in English and 8 in science, while Fremont declined in all three. Other measures offer context rather than a simple explanation of scores: student-teacher ratios range from 21.1 at Fremont to 23.9 at Monta Vista, and 2024–2025 free/reduced lunch eligible shares range from 6% at Monta Vista to 24% at Fremont. Homestead’s share was 16%, alongside results near or above district averages, while Lynbrook’s was 7%.
