Summary

Argonne Elementary is a K-5 public school serving 391 students in San Francisco's Richmond District, operating as a consistently high-performing and stable school within the San Francisco Unified district.

Academically, Argonne is a strong school where students outperform both district and state averages in all core subjects, with math proficiency being a particular strength at 68%. The school shows remarkable growth in English Language Arts between third and fourth grade. While it performs well in science compared to broader benchmarks, it lags behind some nearby schools like Peabody (George) Elementary and Alamo Elementary in that subject. A key finding is that Argonne achieves these solid academic outcomes while serving a student population with greater economic diversity than several higher-ranking local schools, suggesting effective support for all students.

Compared to peers, Argonne maintains a steady track record, avoiding the recent performance dips seen at schools like McCoppin (Frank) Elementary or Jefferson Elementary. Its chronic absenteeism rate is much better than the district average, though higher than top performers like Yu (Alice Fong) Elementary, indicating a potential area for improvement. Overall, Argonne represents an efficient and reliable community school, delivering quality education with moderate resources and serving a diverse community well.

Open Quote Argonne Elementary’s extended year program has made a positive impact on our family’s experience as parents of a new Kindergartner. The extended year model has proven to be a fantastic choice, with our child benefiting from the July start and extra instructional days. The school provides a two-week Summer Session in July for Kinders and grades 1-5 have a 4 week Summer session. Having the summer session helps us feel confident that our child will be consistently engaged in learning throughout the summer, while also having breaks that align with SFUSD. Also, eliminates the need to schedule summer camps in July! We appreciate how the Parent-Teacher Organization welcomes all families as members and fosters a strong sense of pride and unity for the school. The welcoming environment and the support from the dedicated teachers and staff have truly made us feel like a valued part of the Argonne community. Close Quote

Open Quote I currently have 2 kids at Argonne with an incoming Kindergartner in a few year and I couldn't be happier to have Argonne as our elementary school. The community and parent/caregiver involvement is amazing and all the teachers are very invested in the success of our kids. Also, having summer session is huge because we don't have to find summer camps for the month of July! Close Quote
