Summary

Monroe Elementary is a K-6 public school serving 596 students in the Riverside Unified district, located in a high-need community where the vast majority of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

Academically, Monroe is a school on the rise, having significantly improved its statewide ranking over the past decade. It shows particular strength in mathematics, where it outperforms the district average and many nearby schools like Hawthorne Elementary and Harrison Elementary. The school is notably effective with its student population, achieving better results for similar students than other local schools such as Jackson Elementary and Liberty Elementary. A striking finding is that Monroe dramatically outperforms schools in the neighboring Alvord Unified district, such as Foothill Elementary and Arlanza Elementary, despite serving families with similar economic needs.

While Monroe has clear strengths, including very strong 3rd-grade performance and efficient use of resources, families should be aware of areas the school is working to improve. Science scores are currently below average, and chronic absenteeism, though improving, remains higher than at schools like Mountain View Elementary and Jefferson Elementary. The school's upward trajectory and focused support for its students make it a resilient and improving choice within its community.

Open Quote I like the teachers but 42 students to 2 teachers is unacceptable, the staff cares but the underfunding of the school makes it hard for students to learn affectivly. Close Quote

Open Quote I have found on two occasions children who where left unattended in the cafeteria. Not only did the principal drop the ball but so did about five other staff members who failed to notify anyone. The second time I got a very cold reaction from the principal with no apology. I do not trust Monroe! Close Quote
