Summary

Jefferson Elementary is a K-6 public school serving 886 students in the Riverside Unified School District, consistently ranking in the lower third of California elementary schools with academic proficiency below state and district averages.

The school serves a high-need population but has made remarkable progress in improving student attendance, with its chronic absenteeism rate of 15.1% now better than both the district and state averages and lower than most nearby schools like Jackson and Madison Elementary. However, this improved attendance has not yet translated into stronger test scores. Academically, Jefferson performs in the middle compared to local schools, doing better than Liberty Elementary but significantly behind higher-performing schools like Magnolia and Pachappa Elementary.

An interesting finding is that Jefferson operates with the lowest per-student spending among its Riverside Unified peers, yet achieves comparable academic results. Performance varies widely by grade, with 4th-grade math being a particular concern. The school has also seen a notable decline in performance for special education students in recent years. While facing challenges, Jefferson's success in boosting attendance demonstrates a key strength that could be a foundation for future academic growth.

Open Quote The principal is lacking and more interested in passing the STAR test then actually educating. She prioritizes Spanish Speaking students prior to the children as a whole. She doesn't stand for what she advocates. She portrays herself as a healthy impact on this school. In reality she placates the teachers, the parents and the children telling each and all what they want to hear. She does not follow through with her own rules and regulations. She is lucky to still have her position. I wish the district would look more closely at what she does. The school might have a large hispanic population but there is a large amount of people there that do not speak spanish. It is insulting and politically incorrect for everything to be in spanish with the shortened courtesy version in english. This goes for both her, her employees, her teachers, and her students.
