Summary

Star View Elementary is a K-5 public school serving 391 students in Westminster, CA, within the Ocean View School District, and it stands out for achieving strong academic results with a student population where a majority qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

The school consistently ranks in the top 15% of all California elementary schools, with proficiency rates in math, English, and science that are significantly higher than both district and state averages. What's particularly impressive is how it outperforms other nearby schools with similar student demographics, such as Westmont Elementary in the same district, where proficiency rates are roughly half of Star View's despite comparable funding and class sizes. This "Star View Effect" is also seen in its exceptionally low chronic absenteeism rate of 6%, which is less than half the district average and suggests a very positive and engaged school culture.

While schools like Ethan B. Allen Elementary in Garden Grove Unified or Tamura Elementary in Fountain Valley post higher absolute test scores, they serve more affluent communities. For families, Star View represents a compelling case of a school that delivers excellent and improving educational outcomes effectively and efficiently for its community.

Open Quote I sent my daughter to this school 10 years ago and had a great experience at the time.

However, I decided to send my son to this school starting Kindergarten. The Kid's Club childcare was still amazing. It even had the same two main women working, who are incredibly hardworking and wonderful.

However, my son had an awful experience the entire year. I believe it was the newest, or at least a newer Kindergarten teacher.

Take my advice and stay far away from this teacher. She's incredibly unprofessional and unhelpful, and I've never had a worse experience with a school/teacher before. If you want your child to feel comfortable and have education presented in a welcoming environment, make sure to request someone else. Close Quote
