James Logan High is a large high school in Union City, serving 3,096 students in grades 9–12 as part of New Haven Unified. In 2025–26, its proficiency rates were above the state and district in English language arts (ELA), math, and science, and graduation was high at 97%, compared with 95% in the district and 88% statewide. But 24% of students were chronically absent, above the district’s 20% and the state’s 18%. The clearest achievement strength is science: 51% were proficient, ahead of the state by 15 percentage points and the district by 9.

Compared with nearby schools, James Logan had strong results, but was not the local leader. Among nearby schools with reported results, it ranked third in ELA, math, and science, behind American High and Washington High. Its science proficiency was about 10 points above the average at four nearby regular-campus schools with results. JLHS is the most diverse school out there, we have so many great student that get along with each other.
our massive sports program have taken taken state championships nearly every year.
