Summary

Rosewood Avenue Elementary is a public elementary school in Los Angeles, California, serving 232 students in grades K-5. The school consistently outperforms the Los Angeles Unified School District and the state of California in standardized test scores, with 59.35% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts/Literacy, compared to 46.45% for the district and 48.81% for the state. In mathematics, 47.97% of Rosewood Avenue students are proficient or better, compared to 36.76% for the district and 37.3% for the state.

Rosewood Avenue Elementary has a relatively high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, with 66.81% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in 2023-2024. The school's performance for its Hispanic and low socioeconomic status student subgroups is consistently high, often placing in the top quartile of California elementary schools. However, when compared to schools in the neighboring Beverly Hills Unified School District, such as Hawthorne Elementary and Horace Mann Elementary, Rosewood Avenue Elementary lags behind in academic performance, particularly in mathematics and science.

One area of concern for Rosewood Avenue Elementary is the increasing trend of chronic absenteeism, which has risen from 24.9% in 2022-2023 to 30.8% in the same year. This challenge is not unique to Rosewood Avenue, as nearby schools within the Los Angeles Unified District, such as Carthay Elementary and Melrose Avenue Elementary, also experience high chronic absenteeism rates, suggesting a broader district-wide issue.

Open Quote My son attended this school and it was a very positive experience. Principal Crowder is outstanding, and her strong, tireless leadership trickles all the way down. The only shortcoming was the gifted program, which led us to leave. But the music and dance programs are great, the teachers are committed and caring, the school performances are lovely, the library is great, the physical school is nice (no bungalows, and big, airy, light filled classrooms). Beautiful neighborhood. Very involved parents too. Super diverse. It honestly breaks my heart that we can no longer attend. Close Quote
