Summary

Horace Mann Elementary is a high-performing K-5 public school serving 578 students in the affluent and highly-ranked Beverly Hills Unified School District, where it consistently earns a 4-star rating and outperforms state averages in all subjects.

While an excellent school overall, it is important for parents to know that within its own district, El Rodeo Elementary achieves higher test scores, particularly in upper-grade math and science. However, Horace Mann's greatest strength is its exceptional support for specific student groups; it earns 5-star ratings for its work with special education students and students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, ranking in the top 10% of schools statewide for these populations. The school also serves a more economically diverse community than its district peer, with nearly 30% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.

Compared to many nearby schools in the Los Angeles Unified district, Horace Mann benefits from significantly higher per-student funding and a lower student-teacher ratio. Interestingly, some nearby schools like Canfield Avenue Elementary achieve similar academic rankings with fewer resources, highlighting that factors beyond funding contribute to success. For families, Horace Mann represents a strong choice that effectively combines the resources of a wealthy district with a notable commitment to supporting diverse learners.

Open Quote I have had 2 boys at Horace Mann for the last 8 years. The community at Horace Mann is really diverse and very much involved. The PTA does a great job at bringing the community together many times each year. They also fund many programs and events for the students and families. The new building has made a considerable difference in providing a great learning environment. The new classrooms are huge and well designed. The teachers and admin are perhaps the greatest assets of the school. Close Quote
