Bret Harte Preparatory Middle is a Los Angeles Unified school serving 456 students in grades 6–8, in a nearby group where most schools serve similar ages, though some include additional grades. Its clearest story is substantial academic improvement from a low starting point, but test proficiency remains below state and district averages in every main subject: in 2025–2026, 29% of students were proficient in English language arts (ELA), 20% in math and 12% in science.
