Summary

Encino Charter Elementary is a highly-regarded public charter school serving approximately 530 students in grades K-5 within the diverse and competitive Los Angeles Unified school district, consistently ranking in the top 15-20% of all California elementary schools.

The school stands out for its exceptional effectiveness in supporting its students, particularly given that over 40% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch; it achieves strong academic results that significantly exceed both district and state averages in English and Math, and it does so with notably efficient per-student spending compared to many neighboring schools like Gault Street Elementary and Newcastle Elementary. While it operates in an area with several other top performers such as Lanai Road Elementary and the Academy for Enriched Sciences, Encino Charter maintains a competitive edge through its impressive track record with economically disadvantaged students and its steady improvement in reducing chronic absenteeism post-pandemic.

Notable areas for attention include a decline in math proficiency in the upper grades and science scores that, while solid, offer a smaller advantage over averages compared to other subjects. Overall, Encino Charter Elementary represents a compelling option for families, demonstrating that a school can deliver high-quality, cost-effective education while successfully serving a diverse community with varying needs.

Open Quote The principal and teachers do not care about children from families that are not political/donate a ton of time. Another mom told me, due to a school activity, that her daughter doesn't believe in herself anymore. My own kid was lied to by the principal and teachers for weeks before I had to take her to counseling to explain that not all adults of authority are good people by default. Talk about a life lesson.
