Summary

Annandale Elementary is a small public K-5 school in Los Angeles, serving about 90 students in the Los Angeles Unified school district, but it faces significant academic challenges, ranking in the bottom 10% of all California elementary schools.

The school's test scores in English, math, and science are well below both district and state averages, and this performance is notably lower than nearly all nearby schools, including Yorkdale Elementary which has a similar student population. However, Annandale has made a remarkable and positive turnaround in student attendance, with its chronic absenteeism rate now much better than the LAUSD average. It also benefits from a relatively low student-teacher ratio and receives very high per-student funding, though this substantial investment has not yet led to improved academic results.

Annandale's situation is highlighted by its proximity to several higher-performing magnet schools like Rockdale Visual & Performing Arts Magnet and the stark contrast with Arroyo Vista Elementary in the neighboring South Pasadena Unified district, which excels academically. For improvement, the school will likely need to focus on how its resources and small size can be strategically used to enhance classroom instruction and learning outcomes.

Open Quote Administration has no clue about anything. Kids are shoved in tiny classrooms waiting for a new one. Difficult situation to begin with, but these are spec. Ed kids. Some if the special ed. teachers go without ANY aides for long periods of time. Close Quote
