Summary

Robert Gisler Elementary is a highly-rated K-5 public school serving 470 students in the top-performing Fountain Valley Elementary school district.

The school is distinguished by its exceptional success with specific student groups, ranking in the 99th and 100th percentiles statewide for students from low-income families and Hispanic students, respectively, which suggests highly effective support systems. While its overall state ranking is in the 94th percentile—strong, but slightly behind some district peers like Courreges Elementary and Newland Elementary—its science scores are an area for growth, lagging behind the district average and several nearby schools.

Notably, Gisler spends more per student than most schools in its own district, which may relate to its standout subgroup achievements, and it shows a strong post-pandemic recovery with improving attendance and academic ratings. When compared to schools in the neighboring Newport-Mesa Unified district, such as Adams Elementary, Gisler achieves stronger academic results with significantly lower per-student spending, highlighting the efficiency and effectiveness of its educational program.

Open Quote The school has engaged teachers who strive to provide instruction that meets every child's needs. They have an active group of parental volunteers that assist teachers in prep and intervention (reading, sight word testing, helping with rotations, etc...) The PTO is small but they are dedicated. The principal routinely walks classrooms and has a visible presence on campus. Close Quote
