Summary

Maple Elementary serves 511 students in grades K–5 in Fontana, where several nearby elementary schools provide a useful local comparison. In 2025–2026, proficiency was 31% in English language arts (ELA), 23% in math and 17% in science, below both Fontana Unified (41%, 27% and 25%) and California (49%, 38% and 36%). Among six nearby K–5 schools with comparable results, Maple ranked second-lowest in all three subjects. The main takeaway is that Maple’s results trail district and state levels across the board, not just in one subject.

Math is Maple’s relative bright spot: its gap with the district was smallest in that subject, at 4 percentage points, compared with 10 points in ELA and 8 in science. But Maple’s math proficiency was still 8 points below the nearby K–5 average. Grade-level results show important differences, too: third-grade ELA was 20%, the lowest among the six nearby schools, and third-grade math was 27%, second-lowest. Fourth-grade ELA was stronger at 40%, slightly above the district’s 39% and higher than results at two nearby schools. These comparisons suggest that schoolwide averages hide variation by grade.

Results improved overall from 2022–2023 to 2025–2026: ELA rose from 27% to 31%, math from 20% to 23% and science from 14% to 17%. The gap with California narrowed only in ELA; it widened in math and science. Chronic absenteeism fell by 12 percentage points from 2021–2022, but at 28% in 2025–2026 it remained above the district’s 20% and state’s 18%. SchoolDigger ranked Maple in the 20th percentile and gave it 1 star in 2025–2026; its student-teacher ratio was 20.7 in 2024–2025, below the nearby-school average of 22.8. In 2024–2025, 81% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible. SchoolDigger’s ranking for Special Education Students was at the 50th percentile, compared with the school’s overall 20th percentile, while its ranking for English Language Learner Students fell from the 64th percentile in 2022–2023 to the 24th in 2023–2024; these rankings describe how well the school serves each group.
