Summary

Monte Vista Elementary is a K-5 public school serving 489 students in the Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District, currently rated in the lower-middle tier of California elementary schools with a recent trend of declining academic performance.

The school's overall test scores are close to the district average but below the state average, and a significant concern is the dramatic drop in performance between grades; while 3rd graders perform well, 5th graders score alarmingly low, especially in math and science. This school spends more per student than most others in its district, yet achieves only middle-tier results, indicating that how resources are used is crucial. Furthermore, chronic student absenteeism, while improved from pandemic highs, remains an area for attention.

Within its own district, Monte Vista Elementary performs similarly to some neighbors like Richard Crane Elementary, but is outperformed by others such as Marguerite Hahn Elementary. Schools in adjacent districts, like Liberty Elementary and Corona Creek Elementary, achieve significantly higher rankings, highlighting a performance gap across district lines.

Open Quote My son experienced bullying from other students and nothing was done about it. My son went here for Kindergarten and had Mrs. S as his teacher. She acted like she did not like my son and I felt judged by her. He struggled that first year and would often come home sad. I have since switched schools and happy to say he is happy and thriving in first grade! His new teacher has made an enormous difference. Close Quote
