Summary

Rancho Cotate High is a large public high school serving about 1,755 students in grades 9-12 in Rohnert Park, part of the Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District.

The school has a strong 91.8% graduation rate and performs relatively well in English Language Arts, but faces significant challenges in mathematics and science, with proficiency rates notably lower than many nearby schools like Technology High and Petaluma High. A key area of concern is chronic absenteeism, which is higher here than at the district and state level. The school serves a population with considerable economic need, and it shows a particular strength in supporting English Language Learners.

When compared to other local schools, Rancho Cotate's performance is typical for a comprehensive public high school in its district context, though a stark contrast exists with the exceptionally high-performing Technology High, which is less than a mile away. The school's rankings have fluctuated over the years, and it faces achievement gaps for some student subgroups, while its per-student spending and class sizes are generally in the mid-range for the area.

Open Quote Unfortunately, I have two students currently attending this school. Neither will be returning next year. This school lacks any sort of pride, accountability, and positive culture. Teachers are excessively absent. The administration is unorganized, incompetent, and dishonest. Students are not excited about attending school, b/c nobody cares enough to make it a place students want to be. It’s very apparent the staff are unhappy too. If you can, avoid sending your child to this school Close Quote
