Summary

Justin Garza High is a large, relatively new public high school serving grades 9-12 and approximately 2,100 students within the Central Unified district in Fresno.

The school demonstrates a notable strength in ensuring students stay on track to graduate, with a 94.8% graduation rate that exceeds many local schools like Fresno High (89.2%) and is comparable to Bullard High. Academically, its performance in English Language Arts is a standout, outperforming the district average and nearby comprehensive high schools. However, like most schools in the area, it faces significant challenges in mathematics and science proficiency, though its scores in these subjects are still higher than some peers such as Central East High.

While the school's statewide ranking has declined in recent years, it remains above the California average. This decline appears more pronounced for certain student groups, such as those in special education, suggesting the school may be navigating specific support challenges. Compared to other models, it performs very differently from alternative schools like Pershing Continuation High, and while it doesn't match the exceptional academic results of the specialized Design Science Middle College High, it achieves its solid graduation and attendance outcomes with lower per-student spending than many schools in the larger Fresno Unified district.

Open Quote The school is absolutely beautiful such a shame their Girls soccer frosh team has such horrible sportsmanship hopefully their coaches can correct it before they get a bad reputation in the district. After winning their game they began to yell racist and homophobic slurs at the opposite team while their coach did absolutely nothing about it. I do have to say their athletic trainer was absolutely amazing and very professional. Close Quote
