Ruth Musser Middle serves 941 students in grades 5–8 in Rancho Cucamonga, within the Central Elementary District. Its results are uneven: in 2025–26, 54% of students were proficient in English language arts (ELA) and 39% in science, both above state results of 49% and 36%; math proficiency was 32%, below the state’s 38%. The clearest concern is math, especially seventh grade, where proficiency was 29%, compared with 38% statewide and 30% in the district.

Compared with nearby schools, Ruth Musser’s matched-grade results are generally toward the lower end, despite its above-state ELA and science results. In grades 6–8, its ELA proficiency was 49%, 51% and 56%; each result was among the two lowest among nearby schools reporting that grade. Math was also below most nearby schools in grades 6 and 8, while seventh-grade math was second-lowest in the group. A bright spot is fifth-grade ELA at 63%, 14 percentage points above the state and 13 above the district.
